Musical Medicine by David Wilcox

I love how shared pain somehow connects and heals souls.

What do I mean by this?

A few years ago, my friend introduced me to singer/songwriter, David Wilcox, and I immediately felt connected to the lyrics. Sometimes, there are lyrics we know intimately and consciously: from past hurts, present experiences, or future longings… and we feel connected to them. They speak for us – how we feel – in a beautiful and artistic way. We feel understood. We feel known. We know we’re not alone.

Other times, there are lyrics we feel connected to, but we don’t quite know why. But somehow, there is a powerful healing that comes from these songs… they draw out an emotion we never knew we had inside – just like therapy in many ways –> “bringing the unconscious into consciousness”. Perhaps we feel connected to the lyrics because someone else is putting to words how we really feel, yet we didn’t even know it, until now. And a ‘completion’ occurs. A full circle. We feel whole. We feel comforted.

There is power in words. Power to hurt, and power to heal. Power to comfort, power to change.

I’m thankful for artists/musicians like David Wilcox, who has an amazing gift to connect and heal souls, through his music.

Check out his Musical Medicine page, with different songs for different hurts and tough times you might be going through. I hope you find a sense of warmth, peace, and connection, knowing you aren’t alone in your pain. There is growth, change, and hope, ahead.
